He's Mine.

I often get asked the question: what do you do while the girls are at school? Well, I have bible study, meet with my accountability partner, go to meetings,  take kids to the dentist or doctor, sometimes take a little nap, sometimes watch a movie …but recently on Monday’s and Friday’s I’ve been helping out in another children’s home Back2Back serves. Those days I hang out with toddlers and one very special baby boy to do some developmental exercises.

Everyone who really knows me knows I’m not really a baby person. Oh they are cute and all, but baby language is hard for me to speak. Maybe that’s why I live with a bunch of teen girls.

But today I got what all the hype about babies is about.

Isaac is about 4 months old, and has spent practically all of his little life in a crib that’s in a comedor that’s in a children’s home with 40 other kids. This was the major issue that brought me here. A baby that spends too much time in a crib without human interaction and attention will developmentally fall behind. Today, though, was a special day for us. I held Isaac for 2 hours (while my girls were at school). As we walked outside to the 80 degree whether, he squinted his little eyes and cried a bit, the first sign that he doesn’t get out much. We swung on a swing, and yes…I spoke baby language…I don’t really know how it came out…God even equips us with baby language when we need it.

After bathing, visiting the toy room, and reading a book he feel asleep in my arms as I hummed “He loves us” in the sun. Due to the workers comments to lay him down because they would not put him to sleep that way, I had to let him go. How I wished I didn’t have to. I kept thinking how long before someone else cradles him in their arms as he struggled to fall back to sleep in the crib.
On the car ride back home was difficult. I was trying to think of solutions! But I realized who Jesus is. It's like he was saying, “don’t worry Anna, he’s mine…not yours…I’ll take care of him. I have plans for him too, just like I have for you.” And I had to believe Him.
I have this picture of baby Isaac one day knowing Jesus and seeing the big plans he has for him—bigger than my little plans to go back on Friday and hold him again.
I’m glad I belong to Him. Aren’t you?

“And I’ll watch you dance, when you see the plans I’ve made for us.”
-Jesus
