Three X's and You're Out!
I drove a 15 passenger van in Mexico full of teenaged girls! I've heard so many horror stories of how bad the driving is here and have never even attempted it, but I had a promise to keep. Thus, I prayed for the shoddy brakes and made sure everyone was buckled in and left with a van full of girls that did not trust me on the road. I have never heard them so quiet as when I prayed for Jesus' blood covering that night.
My dorm in Casa Hogar Douglass needed some motivation to do chores, homework, and obey the new rules I implemented. Since I have teenaged girls that love to be out and about I promised a paseo every week. The way it works is the same as baseball: you get three chances and once the chart on the wall with your beautiful name has three big X's on it, you cannot go to the mall or out for ice cream or to the taco joint down the street.
A 10 peso (less than 1 American dollar) ice cream cone might sound like nothing, but to a girls who have grown up in a children's home this is like stepping foot in a movie where the girls meet after school to shop and talk about boys. Many of the girls had never even been to the mall until last Friday when I drove them in the shaky van. They got to walk around, look at pretty clothes, listen to music at the music store, and stop for some ice cream in a little shop.
Thank God he has blessed me with resources to share with these girls and give them some first time experiences. Thanks for your prayers.
Checking the list twice,
Anna
