Weeks 1 &2 at Casa Hogar Douglas
One thing my mom told me before I came to Mexico was "don't stop singing!" I guess she thought I would not have a reason to sing, you know seriously, at a children's home. There might be a little "Father Abraham," but that's all. These first couple of weeks my girls and I have developed a routine for bedtime, and guess what, it includes singing! Every night around 9:15 the girls climb into their beds of pinks, purples, yellows, and many other girly colors and begin to request a lullaby. Sometimes their request is Adele and Reggeton, but many times it's songs that I believe have ministered to their lives. I came in the first few days ready to preach Jesus to these girls, but I found that their hearts were closed. They have heard that Jesus could solve all their problems for a long time now, but they are still here abandoned after 3, 5, or even 8 years! The message would not get through to them. But when I took their song requests seriously, I begin to notice that this is one way that Jesus ministers to them. As I sing "Our God is Greater," "Quiero Enamorarte Mas De Ti," "Recibe Toda la Gloria" and "Nina de Tus Ojos" I can feel the presence of God fall like rain and the girls begin to feel the peace of God's love. This causes these emotionally distraught teens to go to sleep before 9:30 every night (do you know any teens that do that?). Amazing what God's presence can do. There's still teaching and instructing the traditional way. I just never thought this would be the way they would feel God's presence, but we all know that God works in mysterious ways. Thank you for your prayers. Singing in the Rain, Anna Valdez
