So what does a regular weekday look like for me and the girls?
Here's a peak into our schedule:
5:15am- I wake up the girls that take a little longer to get ready. Since the just started middle school, some of them now want to do the best to look pretty!
5:40-All the girls wake up!
- This is not an easy task. This is how heavy they sleep. Our neighbor dorm saw that we slept in one day (my alarm did not go off!) and she banged on the windows by their beds for about 20 minutes before any of them heard her...you can image some of the struggles we have. Since they wear uniforms there's always a bow, blouse, or sock missing somewhere...it seems I have the only skills to find it.
6:20- the timbre for breakfast rings and we all line up in front of the comedor to pray for breakfast.
6:40- we do a some chores to not leave the dorm a total mess before they leave. Some girls ask me to braid their hair at this time, usually when there's something special going on at school. I also make then sandwiches at this time to take to school.
7-Hug and kiss on the way out to the van that will take them to school.
from 7-12:20 I usually help out in the office. I not only am a dorm parent, but I am also the coordinator of dorms and deal lots with the psychologist and social worker on special issues that arise in each dorm and with individual children.
12:20- They start arriving from school and changing from their uniforms as we talk about their day and any exciting news from the drama of a bunch of middle school girls.
1- the bell rings again and we line up to pray for lunch. Thank God their lunches have improved dramatically from last school year. I no longer get complaints about what's on their plate.
1:30- we start our daily chores. The girls do most of it on their own, I just help those that are slow that day or that ned that extra help disinfecting. Each girl has one chore usually consisting of sweeping and mopping a small area (like the living room, bedroom, or bathroom) and we rotate bi weekly. Every three days or so they get a reward for keeping their areas clean. the rewards are usually earrings, colored pens, socks, and other little things they never get to go shopping for.
2:15- This is homework time. This is where we get to practice English (they all have an English class at school ) and I help them with special projects.
3:15- 6 during these hours we have special classes we offer all the kids. These include: computer class, dance class, sports, tutoring and soon a music class. Most days the girls have an hour off to just relax.
6- dinner!
6:30-7:30- If it is not our day of the week to clean the comedor then we just have recreation outside.
7:30 while two of my girls have a special class with our certified coach training for soccer the rest of us head inside the dorm and begin getting ready for the next day. We have a snack, shower, and prepare uniforms and materials for the next day .This is also the time where we have one on one's and group talks if necessary.
By 9:30 everyone is ready for bed and this is our time to unwind and thank God for the day. We read a book for about 15 minutes, testimonies of people that God has reached and changed. He we touch on topics of restoration, healing , and how God can change a life. We pray together and I sing them to bed.
BY 10 THEY ARE ALL OUT ( MOST NIGHTS)!This is just a week day, weekends are a whole other story.
In the middle of this crazy day there is a lot of talking, reaching out, ministering and praying together. We keep our daily life focused on how God calls us to live our life.
